WHO ARE WE?

We are Primary schools from Spain, Greece and Turkey who are working together in order to improve our pupils’ social, linguistics, technological and scientific competences, as part of an Erasmus+ project.

We want to achieve with the Erasmus+ project some tangible goals such as some programming units about how to work science, taking stories for kids as motivation, also teachers training and exchange of methodologies, as well as an improvement of the English level in pupils and teachers.

description

Our schools have been chosen to be the reporters of the new magazine “Science in stories for kids” whose objective is to investigate if there is some science in traditional fairy tales and stories. The teams should know each other well and also the schools and the countries.

In international teams, we have to study the fairy tales “The three little pigs” and “Charlie and the Chocolate factory”. On the one hand, we do linguistic work about reading comprehension and technical aspects of the books.  On the other hand, we do scientific work proposing scientific questions and trying to solve them by research and experimental activities, focusing on construction materials, building scale models of an ecological house, simple machines and other pupils’ interests.

As a final product we have to edit a magazine, pupils and teachers must agree about the contents of the magazine, deciding which of the linguistic and scientific activities will be published in it, that has to show the work done and share with other schools the experience.

ZER Baix Camp Sud

We are a Rural School Zone (ZER), named Baix Camp Sud, formed by two schools: school Puigmarí and school Font de l’Arc, the only schools in two little villages in the south of Catalonia. As primary schools, our main activity is educating pupils to be able to confront and solve, with effectiveness, the new challenges set out by a global, sustainable, digital and increasingly multicultural society. In other words, our most important task is to provide children the necessary tools to become competent future citizens. Taking into account this fact, the school carries out different activities which help pupils to get this aim: we work through learning projects and global methodologies (pupils learn to be critical thinkers, to ask themselves questions…), we participate in programmes of education as Escoles Verdes (pupils learn sustainable actions to take care the environment) and we implement the potential of digital technologies for teaching-learning in all our activities every day.

1st Primary School of Glyka Nera

Our school has a 30 year history. Nowadays Glyka Nera is a semi-urban town and there are 3 Primary Schools. We have an obligatory common program for all pupils, depending on level, and after that there is a program for those pupils who want to study in school doing additional activities, e.g. sports or arts. There are 13 classes for 6 grades in our school. Some learning objects such as greek language, mathematics, gymnastic, arts, computer science, are common for all grades. Some other subjects are added in levels, e.g. history in 3rd grade and physics in 5th grade. We implement the official curriculum, aiming to prepare children for their smooth integration into society, having academic and social skills, and being prepared to be global citizens. Taking these into account, we implement a variety of environmental and cultural projects, we promote health educational programs, we use interactive, interdisciplinary teaching methods and digital technologies.

Ahmet Yesevi Ilkokulu (AYO)

Is a pre-primary and primary school. It has gifted students and we have some programmes for their education like Montessori methods, STEAM and Robotic (coding). AYO has a class for students with special needs like autism. We have some programmes for them too. Especially teachers use Montessori to improve students’ daily life skills and mathematical skills.

AYO has programmes about STEAM and Robotics. AYO has a STEAM lab. Both our students and teachers will explore the basis of the STEAM method which is one of the 21st century education trends. In addition, presenting the problem based learning method of this project with stories that will especially attract the attention of primary school students will improve our students’ willingness and ability to produce solutions to scientific problems. Also AYO is in a national project called “Anatolian Tales” so contribute to this project from anatolian tales project’s experiences.
